A historic haul — the Bay has never seen fishing like it.
But the water is warming. In an El Niño year the school runs lean and scattered,
and it recovers slowly. Fish it anyway?
You are a fleet of fishing boats sharing one Bay. Play lasts 5 seasons. Catch enough fish to meet the table's Goal — but if the Stock ever hits 0, everyone loses. The Bay wins or loses as one.
| Players | Start | Max | Goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 10 | 14 | 14 |
| 3 | 10 | 16 | 23 |
| 4 | 13 | 20 | 30 |
| 5–6 | 16 | 24 | 40 |
Set the Stock marker to the Start value for your player count. Shuffle every card into one deck except the 4 reference cards.
Every round is one fishing season. Play what you draw — no redrawing.
1. Each player draws 3 cards.
2. Ocean cards (Mild Season, El Niño, La Niña) are revealed immediately and hit the whole table's Stock.
3. If you drew a Coop card, negotiate a pledge or quota with the group. A pledge is binding for one round. (Note: this is a new addition — in the physical deck, pledges are not binding.)
4. Fish with one Catch or one “Another Fish” card — not both. If you drew a Catch card, you must fish.
5. At the end of the season, discard your entire hand — including unplayed cards. Everyone draws fresh next season.
The Stock only changes when Ocean cards are drawn — their effect is forced, and it hits everyone:
La Niña — the Stock grows by half (1.5×).
Mild Season — add 3 fish to the Stock.
El Niño — the Stock is cut in half.
There is no regrowth between seasons. Keep the Bay healthy so a halving doesn't end you.
After season 5, the table wins if the Stock is above 0 and the combined catch meets the Goal. The table loses if the Stock ever hits 0, or the Goal isn't met.
Captain: the player with the greatest individual catch is captain of the fishing fleet.
